Chris Sedgeman Scaffolding - MEDICAL FITNESS POLICY This policy is guidance for the competence specific medical fitness of all employees and contractors working for Chris Sedgeman Scaffolding Limited. The aim of the guidance is to: - 1. Ensure all of the workforce is medically fit to do the job they are employed to do; 2. To ensure that all persons are performing to the maximum efficiency and competency; 3. Chris Sedgeman Scaffolding will have procedures in place to monitor and where appropriate maintain the fitness for duty of individuals working for the company; 4. Regular drugs and alcohol screening will be carried out in accordance and is detailed in the company’s drug and alcohol policy; 5. Fatigue caused by excessive hours of work, working time patterns or other factors will be assessed. This will work alongside our Fatigue Policy; 6. Illness or the effects of treatment for an illness; 7. Any of the following circumstances or conditions that will cause issues with your general health: - a. Sudden loss of consciousness b. Impairment of awareness or concentration c. Sudden incapacity d. Visual impairment of a temporary or transient nature e. Impairment of balance or co-ordination; or significant limitation of mobility f. Obesity shall be assessed by the medical examiner to be certain it is not likely to limit mobility or related to any medical abnormality that could increase the risk to safety while working; 8. We will ensure that all the scaffolding and labouring operatives are assessed by the Medical Fitness Standards. 9. A medical assessment will be carried out by medical suppliers approved by the company. If an employee has been assessed and a medical fitness level has been issued with restrictions then we shall: - a. Consider the medical restrictions that apply and seek further advice of the responsible occupational physician if needed; b. Consider if it is reasonably practicable, having made reasonable adjustments in accordance with the Disability Discrimination Act 1995 (as amended), to implement a safe system of work to allow the individual to hold the competency c. Undertake a suitable risk assessment to enable a safe system of work Level One assessment means you have passed General Health; Normal Vision; hearing loss not exceeding 30 dB. 10. Where an employee fails to meet the levels of fitness Chris Sedgeman Scaffolding Limited shall review the competences held by the individual and the tasks to be carried out and considered if alternative duties are reasonably practicable; 11. The medical supplier will provide certificate of medical fitness to the employer stating which level of medical fitness requirement has been assessed. Each medical certificate shall record, in addition to the duration of validity: a. That the individual named on the certificate has been medically assessed for safety critical work b. Any medical limitations arising from the items listed in section 7 above c. Colour vision status (normal/defective); and d. The name of the occupational physician who conducted the medical examination. 12. The medical supplier, will inform Chris Sedgeman Scaffolding Limited of the medical fitness status of the individual and the date of the next medical assessment, as soon as practicable. 13. Chris Sedgeman Scaffolding Limited has processes in place for the retention of records for no less than ten years from the testing date or for the period of the individuals’ employment. 14. Medical assessments shall be carried out to a every 3 years from the date of the last assessment. New employees will be required to have a medical when the company can schedule it in.
